Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the things we are asked most.

001 – The housing

About the housing

What is transitional housing?

It is short to medium-term housing with light-touch coaching and guidance for people who are ready to leave hostels, supported housing or temporary accommodation but are not yet in a permanent home.

Who is it for?

Adults moving on from supported housing or hostels, people facing homelessness who are ready for semi-independent living, people in part-time work and people receiving benefits such as Universal Credit, PIP or ESA.

Is the accommodation furnished?

Yes. Homes are furnished, in shared houses and self-contained flats.

What help is provided?

Tenancy coaching, help with work and training, links to wellbeing services, a monthly welfare check and a personal move-on plan.

How long can someone stay?

There is no single fixed period. The length of stay is set out in the resident’s agreement and reviewed through their move-on plan. The aim is always a planned move to settled housing.

What does it cost?

Each room listing shows the weekly rent and service charges. Residents on a low income can usually claim help with housing costs, and we help with the claim. Part of the service charge is normally paid by the resident.

002 – Applying

Applications and referrals

How do I apply for a room?

Open the listing under available rooms and fill in the application form at the bottom of the page.

Who can make a referral?

Councils, supported housing providers, health and probation services, and individuals referring themselves.

How quickly will we hear back?

We respond as quickly as we can. Assessment and move-in are typically arranged within 2 to 10 days of referral.

What happens if a referral is not suitable?

We will explain why and, where we can, suggest other options.
